Pretty straightforward ghost story that leans heavily toward the mystery side of the spectrum. The ghost is one Hattie Breckinridge, who was hung by her neighbors for predicting a fire. Tragedy seems to follow all of Hattie's ancestors too. The main protagonists, Helen and Nate, aren't moving into Hattie's house but building their own house on Hattie's land. They strike up a nice relationship with a local girl who's dealing with her own family tragedy since her mother disappeared--ran off with some man, according to the town.
I wish the story had been scarier. The ghost often seems more helpful than frightening, but that's always been a thing for me with ghost stories.
