The Reaper continue the story where The Predator ended. Tristan and Dante are asked to go back by the boss of the Tenebrae Outfit and they take Morana with them. I liked that they gave her a choice if she wanted to go or not.
I didn't like how Tristan tested Morana but I'm glad it made her admit that she wanted to be able to walk in a room and know without a doubt, that the man she claimed was hers. Like, I understand wanting to know if she felt the same but that was not way to do it. Being said that, I liked them more in this book. The relationship felt like more even if he avoided her sometimes. He's fucked up but he's hers. Tristan made her feel cherished, sheltered and protected. Morana didn't wan a nice guy. She wanted a monster as a kid. Her monster who would keep her safe and kill the other monsters who wanted to hurt her and she found him in the Reaper. Tristan might not be the most romantic hero but he would die and kill for her.
I was sad we didn't get to see Amara in this book but I adored Morana's friendship with Dante. She thought of him as her brother and she went to him for safety. He was so gentle with her and made her wish he was there for her growing up. Dante was glad that she felt she could come to him.
I did not understand Chiara at all. I wonder if she secretly liked Tristan more than he liked her or if she just hated the idea of someone like Morana being around and liking the idea of winning. She acted like a jealous girlfriend and even though I felt bad for being in the marriage she was in I didn't like her at all and didn't see any redeemable qualities.
All in all this was a much faster read for me than The Reaper and I liked the relationship much more. I also adored how Dante was always there to help Morana. There are still unanswered questions, so even thought the rest of the books won't focus on this couple I might still be interest enough to continue the series.
