What happens when you have a sassy, ASL teacher and a former Marine who lost his hearing work together as co-teachers? You get a whole lot of tension, chemistry, and a great romance in the workplace! Kristy Marie wrote a story centered on, Tim and Milah, two different individuals yet they shared a common theme, the ability to communicate through their hands. With Tim’s loss of hearing, his world changed completely even with the many years previously having to prepare for the inevitable day. Milah was a teacher, but originally came from Costa Rica who came to America for a brighter future. When Milah finds out that her program is being taken away by the end of the year, suddenly her hope for her future seemed doomed and more than likely would have to go back to Costa Rica. For Tim, he needed to adjust to his new life, and working alongside Milah proved to be more than he expected. This story had, found family, workplace romance, tension, a little bit of angst, deaf/ ASL representation, and romance.

Tim was an intriguing character right from the start. While Tim’s book was about him, I was able to gleam through his backstory that there was more to him than meets the eye. Tim had always known he was one day going to completely lose his hearing, and even knowing that didn’t take away from the sadness he experienced. Losing his hearing didn’t just mean he lost the ability to hear his family’s voices, or the laughter from his niece, Aspen, but also the loss of hearing the music he once played with so much emotion and beauty. Music was a big part of Tim’s life especially since he was a musical prodigy from a young age. Tim was also a bit grumpy around others, but gradually softened up around Milah, who continued to show him just how sassy and understanding she was despite all the fire that was brimming between them. I really liked Tim and the way he was around his family was sweet, and loving. You can’t go wrong falling for Tim because that man had hearts coming out of my eyes haha.
Milah, my lovely, amazing, sassy, Latina sister from another mister was great right off the bat as well! Kristy Marie knows how to write lovable characters and just like with Tim, I really liked Milah too! When we first meet Milah at the start of the book, she was thrown a curveball she wasn’t expecting. Between the impending closure of her program, the looming future of being unemployed, and having to go back to Costa Rica, the last thing Milah expected was a tall, dark, mysterious, and frustratingly handsome man being her co-teacher. Seeing Milah get fired up at Tim’s little antics made me see just how much passion there actually was between them. Plus, even Milah couldn’t always remain all professional, sometimes she had a moment of weakness especially when Tim couldn’t help being so devastatingly talented and kind when working with the kids, and being with his family (sigh) what a man.
AWWWW I REALLY LIKED THIS STORY! Milah & Tim were great together and their romance was hot, steamy, but also filled with lots of heartfelt moments and vulnerability. Tim never thought he would end up in a relationship, suddenly imagining his future with a family of his own, but what do you know? It ended up happening to him. Tim’s outlook on his future changed completely through Milah, Oliver, and the support of his family. While I haven’t read the previous books in this interconnected series, the build up to Tim’s story was one that ultimately showed his growth, and overcoming the fears that held him back from moving on. I really enjoyed Tim and Milah’s story and seeing the intimacy in how ASL played a big role in their relationship was significant and sentimental. The found family in this story was also heartwarming and loving which played really well into showing the support system that Tim had. Milah was a lovely character who was sassy, funny, and strong. The chemistry between Milah and Tim was great and translated well throughout the whole story. I think the way the story ended was lovely and it made me happy to see how Milah and Tim’s lives ended up becoming better than they could have imagined. Really enjoyed this story, loved the epilogue which was precious, and Milah and Tim were a lovable couple that I adored reading about.
