I found some of the representation of queerness to be problematic but this is from the late 90s so maybe that’s why it didn’t fit right with me?
I liked how the story moved but about 2/3 of the way through I got a sinking feeling about the twist ending re: the woman who just looked a bit “off” and turned out to be trans and also the murderer who was having a secret affair with a policeman. I turned out to be right and was disappointed in the way folks were portrayed as outsiders and a madman who could “never fit in”
