I don't know about this one. I went in expecting more about the identity issues that come from being a grandchild of immigrants and being mixed race (hi it's me, I'm those things), but those issues were more mentioned than addressed?
The FMC felt a bit caricaturized in terms of her strict adherence to the zodiac compatibility, her super short fuse, and her unwillingness to seek love for herself. We do get an explanation for why she's like this, but it still felt heavy handed, as did her eventual revelation. And the book was all 1st person POV from her perspective so I feel like she should've been easier to relate to.
I appreciated all the Chinese and Taiwanese cultural details about the zodiac, food, relationships, and rituals, that were built in to the story. The narrator did a good job overall, and you could hear the musicality of the Mandarin language when she used Chinese words and phrases.
This was a spice free romance. There's not even an implication of the characters doing anything other than kissing. The MMC seemed like a genuinely good dude but we don't really get to know him all that well.
