Oh. My. Word. I don't know what I expected. But I didn't expect this. And it's so dang good. I didn't realize how much I love books that take place in space, but that aren't really about aliens or are super hardcore scifi? Maybe you'd consider this scifi, who knows, but honestly, I LOVED THIS BOOK and I'm now on a mission to read anything and everything Amie Kaufman writes.
Kady starts a normal day at school after breaking up with her boyfriend, until the planet that she lives on gets attacked, and all the survivors must flee to a fleet of ships. The whole story is told like a dossier, through emails and chat logs, interviews, memos which makes the book fly. The twist in this book is that AIDAN, the AI has gone haywire, and AIDAN is what controls all these ships.
I can't say enough amazing things about this book, and I don't want to give too much away. I went into this book totally blind, hearing amazing things and I fell in love with it. I devoured it in a day, and then immediately got the second one. I now have preordered Obsidio, the third one, because I just cannot get enough. If you like space, and space wars (think Star Wars) you will absolutely love this. There are twists, and they're unexpected and absolutely keep you guessing. if you can get this in a hard copy, do that.
