Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera
5.0
STORY (4.5 stars)
AUDIO NARRATION (5 stars)
I really enjoyed this book, and the audio narration made it even better.
'Listen for the Lie' is a story about Lucy, the prime suspect in her best friend Savvy's murder five years ago. Lucy has no recollection of the night it happened. She doesn't even know if she actually killed her.
Lucy was never charged due to lack of evidence, but a true crime podcaster comes in and threatens her current peace.
After learning about Lucy's involvement in the crime, her employer and her boyfriend decide they're better off without her. In light of this turn of events, Lucy is forced to return to a small town in Texas to reunite with her family and old friends, all of whom are convinced she killed Savvy.
This was such an addicting read. It's like listening to gossip, and I, as the reader couldn't get enough. I wanted to know more.
I like how we can't even trust our main characters and their motives, and how basically every single person in that town is just terrible overall. The memory loss, the interviews, and the secrets all add to the mystery.
Lucy is such a likable character to me, so I genuinely wanted her not to be the killer, and I was left guessing up until the reveal!
Not gonna say more because it might be a spoiler, but I was smitten with the subplot of this book.
I would love to be able to experience this book again for the first time. If you haven't read this, I recommend that you do it in audiobook format!
