Amazing Spider-Man, Volume 2: Spider-Verse Prelude by Dan Slott

4.0

This is the second book in my read-through of the Silk and Spider-Gwen portions of the Spider-Man universe.

There's no Gwen yet, and very little Silk, but this is a fun examination of the upcoming Spider-Verse story that brings them to the forefront of the Spidder-mythos. And, again, it's fun. It's silly and it's over-the-top, but because it focuses less on the conventional Spider-Man, and more on the many Spider-Men of many different universes, it worked for me.

I think it's biggest plus is that it doesn't spend too long on an idea. Slott is clearly full of ideas, but sometimes turns what would be a fun five page story into a dreary and exhausting year long storyline. But, in this volume, we get five pages of Shakespider-man, ten pages of Captain Spider-Brit, some Christos Gage written bits about Superior Spider-Man's time in the Spider-Man 2099 universe. It's constantly moving and evolving the story. And it makes me hopeful for the actual Spider-Verse story.

I recommend this for people who enjoy different iterations of Spider-Man, fans of Spider-Man Noir, people with short attention spans, Spider-freaks, Dan Slottophiles, and anyone looking for the goofy fun that I derided in the review I wrote for [b:Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. 1: The Parker Luck|20898012|Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. 1 The Parker Luck|Dan Slott|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1505597985s/20898012.jpg|40257734].
