Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas

Annabelle dislikes Simon too vehemently at first and for no real reason that I can mustard. I get that he isn’t a “peer” but she is desperate for money and is saying yes to literally anyone, except the very rich very hot man who is obviously interested in her. It doesn’t make sense. Then when they get together she’s like completely besotted. Like a switch. But aside from that, I liked the story. It reminds me of Bringing Down The Duke, which is the first romance novel I ever read. I know that the Evie Dunmore one came out many years after but I read it first. The Annabelle in Bringing Down The Duke wasn’t a virgin and boy, that book is a jalapeño as opposed to this book which is a poblano.
I am very interested in the other wallflowers. The American sisters especially. I made this of Caribbean descent in my mind and you can’t convince me otherwise. (Yes I understand they are probably all white). I will read the others in the series because there many people I follow who swear by The Devil In Winter, so I have to get to that one at least.
