The Heartbreaker by Sara Cate
4.25
Once again, Sara Cate has made me love a story full of tropes I do not like.
I loved The Heartbreaker! Lucas was a totally grumpy professor and Sadie was a family friend who also happened to be in his class and was generally a bit of a mess. He offered to help her get her life in order when she discovered she was pregnant and she accused him of wanting to be a Dom… and she wasn’t wrong.
The tension between the two characters was insane and they both continued on with the arrangement and continued to distance themselves despite so obviously falling for one another.
I enjoyed watching Lucas fall for someone and genuinely care about Sadie. I think this might be my favorite of the Goode brothers so far, which is weird since I don’t like the kinks or pregnancy aspect.
I don’t know how or why Sara Cate books work for me, but they do and I can’t get enough! I think she just makes her characters seem so real and genuine. These stories don’t seem to just be picking tropes and rolling with it, but creating stories about people who fall into these tropes and it feels natural and enjoyable to read.
I’m serious, every time I try to pick up books in similar genres with similar tropes I don’t like that aren’t written by Sara Cate, I read with a permanently scrunched face. She’s my go to spicy author!
