Jojo Moyes holds her place as a home run author for me with this story about the plucky women working as packhorse librarians in early 1900's Kentucky. This story was informational, heartfelt, and emotional. I felt connected to the characters and was rooting for all of these women to find their places in this difficult lifestyle. The Giver of Stars offers a glimpse into the lives of those who surely must be some of the toughest, proudest, and most determined people in history... the coal miner families of the Appalachian mountains. This book showcases some of the most difficult and also some of the most beautiful moments that I can imagine while shining light onto a little known program that worked to bring literature into the mountains and hollers of Kentucky. Oh, how I wished I could ride alongside Margery and Alice as they roamed from homestead to cabin, saddlebags stuffed full of books, magazines, and comics lending a bit of joy and escape to young and old alike. I was sorry to leave these folks behind as I closed the cover and set The Giver of Stars back in its place among my most beloved stories. This one's a keeper!
