my favorite part of reading an author's backlist is recognizing their style and the little quirks that are unique to their writing. with emily henry it's the fact that she makes her male main characters the rudest lover boys you'll ever read and i LOVE it. not to mention, she has dialogue down pack and her world building is close to being perfect. i've never been one for the small town setting but she's 2-0 with no misses in sight. i'm not ashamed to say i'm looking forward to the next book that she sets in bumf*ck, middle america because i know it'll be too good.
let me just say this: hate nora's name. it takes nothing away from the book and the meaning is explained explicitly, but it was a bit of gag everytime i read it (same with charlie, but that's just because i love twilight). other than that, i love them as characters. nora was still nora at the end (maybe even more of herself) sans a few tears and charlie still had a vehement distaste for his hometown. their relationship was...cloudy at times. frustrating, repetitive, heart-thumping, knees-shakingly *comely*. it was just nice to read. they just get each other and the word "perfect" is thrown around so much in the book, but they really are perfect for each other.
as always emhen does a fantastic job with her side characters. though, i did find some of them to be very annoying (and by some i mean libby, nora's little sister who is the bane of her existence- lovingly). charlie's parents were okay in the best way (sally goode is in my dream rotation; i would let clint get a contact high), i'm glad amaya wasn't a villian, blake carlisle is the worst, and shepherd.....i really hope he gets a spin-off.
overall, i really enjoyed this read but that can't be a surprise to anyone. 4.3⭐s
