Powerless by Elsie Silver
5.0
5 happy tear-filled stars to this one 💕.
Sloane and Jasper have been friends since childhood, both of them there for each other when the other needed it. It's Sloane's wedding day when her life falls apart before her eyes and Jasper is there to save her. And when Jasper's world crashes around him, Sloane's there to return the favour. The more time they spend alone together, the less they feel like friends.
Let's have a round of applause for Elsie Silver because she's gone and done it again *aggressively claps*. I keep thinking that I've read about my favourite of her couples with each book I devour by her... and yet, the next book somehow grips me me in the feels harder than the previous one. Each better than the last.
POWERLESS is a small town childhood friends-to-lovers sports romance with Sloane and Jasper as our love interests. Sloane is a prima ballerina who has spent her life bowing to other people's desires. Jasper is a quiet and shy hockey player with sad eyes and a heart of gold. They've got years of history together but have been like ships in the night where romance is concerned, never ready for the other at the right times.
This is a beautifully written romance filled with heartache and longing paired with tender and loving moments between the two main characters. POWERLESS is a book that is emotional, heartfelt, sweet, and packs a punch in the spice department. Jasper is up there in my list of fictional book boyfriends - he's an absolute sweetheart. I think both characters demonstrated growth in their personal lives and I was so here for it! POWERLESS' epilogue was the perfect cap to this story- and I adored the sweet moments shared between Harvey and Jasper, literally making me cry .
I absolutely love the characters in Chestnut Springs and really enjoyed getting to see the two previous novels' couples here. As always, Harvey is a beloved character for me. He's such a great role model, has timely advice, and gets me every time with his dirty jokes and sassy remarks.
Can't wait to see what's next for Chestnut Springs! I'm hoping we get Beau's story *fingers crossed*
