The White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean
5.0
A "scary" book about a trip to the Antarctic gone bad. I'd really like to see this as a movie. The main character is really interesting, she has so much personality. Great character development.
I'm coming back to this review in 2013 and I still think of the main character as one of the best created/developed characters I've encountered. I chose this based on the cover as well as the main character's name (Sym, what a cool name!), and was pleased to find the book lived up to my expectations. Very good read!! (still want this as a movie:))
In my recommendation I mention it for girls as it may be more relatable to them since the main character is a girl, but I don't think it's restricted to that gender. Also, while I believe it's a YA novel, there are some intense parts in this book so it really could apply to older ages.
