Breadsong: How Baking Changed Our Lives by Al Tait, Kitty Tait

adventurous hopeful informative inspiring relaxing sad medium-paced

3.0

Although most of the book was relaxing, the beginning had some difficult moments where I almost DNF as it was sad, slow and didn't  seem to be going anywhere. Also towards the end there's some sort of child neglect where they had their 16 /15 year old work seven days a week. They neglected her education to some extent and let her get burned out during the pandemic by working so much. This teenager then goes on to say it's her responsibility as if her parents aren't her guardians supposed to care about her wellbeing and attempt at the least to set limits. Her dad clearly  failed to set rigid work hours to  prevent this burnout and relapse. There's also some neglect in training and finding a suitable environment for their dog for a long while and the dog traumatizing their cat.Although it is an inspiring listen and informational about bakeries, you're unlikely to find any concrete solutions to depression and anxiety. They didn't really go that much into detail into what helped her that much (a combination  of things, mainly experiences it would seem ) and she did zero trauma work/none was mentioned. It can be heartwarming at times with her friends ,family and community supporting her and positive experiences from other bakers on Instagram. A mixed bag really.

Audiobook, her voice is quite high pitched & there are no recipes,no dialogue until the last 5 mins.Father & daughter take it in turns to tell what happened.
