Say hello to the golden trio kids deserve: intelligent, complex, inclusive, questioning.
Dhonielle Clayton had written the book she always needed as a child and, in doing so, has created a world that is both analogous of our own and completely unique. Characters are as complicated - never all one thing - as people are. The settings are truly fantastical in both designs and details, and the plot! The plot grabs you by your shirt and won’t let go, taking you on a wild ride of light and dark, hidden histories, and the struggles for power, equity, and change. In short, The Marvellers is a masterpiece and I can’t wait for more.
This book would make an incredible addition to any middle-grade library and would be a mind-bending, edge-of-your-seat read aloud. It would also make a darn good movie and I hope that happens. The world needs Ella, Jason, and Bridgit, their struggles and their triumphs, in as many forms as we can get them.
