You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

5.0

I guess I suddenly became a sucker for contemporary books, because I very much enjoyed this one!

This book is a cautionary tale of sorts. I think it preaches against sleeping through life and settling for less than you deserve. It supports communication, even in difficult conversations, and choosing love.

The author sort of set up readers to dislike our love interest from the beginning, but I found him very likable. Certain something was wrong with our protagonist and she was misinterpreting him, or just not giving him a chance. This book is cut-throat and raw. For someone who has been single for years, seeing love depicted in all its glory (including the ugly) was refreshing. Some may consider their relationship toxic, and I might agree if what they struggle with couldn’t be solved through communication and effort. I thoroughly loved every page. I can see some people thinking that the ending was very abrupt, and I do agree that it ended pretty quickly. However, given the circumstances of the novel, which is paced pretty quickly, I think it was appropriate.

I highly recommend this. Oh and if you read according to seasons, it’s set in the winter.
