OK, I have a lot of thoughts about this one. I didn’t mind this. I thought it was good, although definitely rushed in terms of quality compared to the first book. I think one of the main reasons so many people struggled with this book because the vibes are very different than the first one. The first book is definitely more focused on the action and The initial connection between Remy, Malekh, and Xiaodan. I really love the first book but The second book isn’t bad It’s just definitely different. I can see the direction they wanted to go with the story, but I think they went so far in a different direction with the general vibes of the book that a lot of people felt so disconnected from the first especially considering how many people loved the first book.
While the second book focuses more on the relationship between the three love interest as well as the history of the world. There was a bit more in this which was not a negative for me. I actually enjoyed that. I think it felt really natural in a lot of the scenes, especially considering how close the three characters had gotten. However, while I think the three main characters did a great job of staying pretty consistent to their characters and the development they had, some of the other side characters almost completely changed personalities.
I think this book had a lot of potential. I love that this book focus more on the relationship and the political intrigue, but the execution really left something to be desired. Especially when looking at the politics and the intrigue this book promised. This book felt extremely rushed and the plot felt like a lot had to be changed and reworked. It kind of felt like the book had an initial plot that then got changed so many times that everyone kinda lost sense of the direction they were headed for the whole story.
I did enjoy the book, I think it could have been better.
