I have a bit of a hard time pinpointing what I thought about this book. Did I like it? I’m honestly not very sure.

The world was stunning and I had beautiful images in my head while reading. Probably my biggest plus point.

The politics, however? I couldn’t even fathom while reading that this is really the message this book wants to send. There was like the perfect setup for an anti monarchy book and overthrowing an antisemitic system but the opposite happened?? I feel like it was all a set up for a smaller scale story, just focusing on the murder, and the author forgot that she set up this oppressive world and the ramifications of it.

I liked the bickering between the main pair. I went a little back and forth while reading whether I felt their chemistry, but overall I’d say I did.

The plot? I don’t know. I didn’t care all that much. I faded in and out of it.

The weirdest thing about this book was that I could not process the words when reading. It took awfully long to get through a passage. I don’t know what that was. After 30 pages I decided to switch from physical book to audiobook, which saved me and I was finally able to get through it. But even then I noticed myself not processing an unusually big amount.
