A fascinating read about what really was a remarkable piece of war-time history.
Even without knowing much of the detail surrounding Bletchley Park, a general awareness of what happened there and some of those involved is likely. What we get in The Rose Code is a fictionalised telling of the story.
Told through the eyes of three very different young women - Osla, Mab and Beth - we follow them through their secondment to Bletchley Park, some of the events they were involved in and the story surrounding the capture of someone who traded secrets at the time. The historical detail may - though I’m not sure - not have always been wholly accurate, but it was used to help develop our characters and their stories.
Each of the female characters was strong in their own way. It was hard not to be caught up in their stories, particularly as we move into the present and their fight tonight a very terrible wrong.
Even though this was a hefty book, once I’d picked it up I was absorbed. Hard to find anything to fault, and it’s made me keener to get on with reading some of the other Quinn books that I haven’t yet started.
