I’m literally kicking myself, why have I left it so long to pick up another cracking read by Jill?! Totally rectified that now and I couldn’t be happier.
Promise Me touches on some sensitive subjects which can be triggering for some, I will list them further down my review.
If you’re looking for loveable characters and a small town community, you will find all that within the pages of this book and trust me, you won’t want to put it down.
Lou has lost her job and her home and has now taken a job caring for the grumpy old man, Edgar Allsopp meaning her return to Foxwell.
She has her friend Sammy, who just wants his music to be noticed and his brother, Remy there and makes friends along the way.
Lou secretly plans to get Edgar to fall in love with life again, which she makes look easy but probably isn’t, given he’s quite the character. And, not forgetting Captain Oates, the dog everyone loves but who hates people, much like Edgar. Perfect match, right?!
Lou has had her fair share of traumatic experiences and has built this wall to protect herself (and who can blame her?!) but can Remy break the wall down and be the man for Lou?!
Will Sammy’s music career take off and more importantly, will he and Jess ever get their happy ever after?!
All in all, please just read this book. I loved everything about it, all the characters - even the not so loveable ones, the plot, the twist and the way it made me feel.
TW: abuse, grief & death.
