The Rook by Taylor Danae Colbert
4.0
Avie liked how things were. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Leo is willing to help in any way he can. He’s a protector and is good at what he does.
This may be a mafia romance but it’s one that shows the gentler side and that could be because of who is calling the shots. She knows when to be tough and when to use the woman’s touch. Leo may be tough when the time calls for it but he can be gentle when the need arises.
It was a compelling story. I was compelled to keep my eyes on my tablet and to not turn away. With all the darkness that you usually think of when you hear the words “mafia romance,” this really is the real deal. It’s not as violent a world as most of the other books I have read but the author still conveys that this story does fit. This is not a book that will have you anxiously looking for the evil that may be around the next bend.
For a lot of the book, the romance is subtle but shows itself at just the right moment. And the author knows the right moment to add some spice and heat. But she’s also very sneaky and it was something I never expected but I’m terrible at solving crossword puzzles and mysteries anyway.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
