Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris
5.0
So, you've married your George Clooney, or your Tom Hardy and you can't believe your luck. Could life be anymore perfect?
Grace married her Mr Right, but, holy hell, Mother of God, it turns out she only goes and gets hooked up with the Devil himself. Or worse. Ladies, introducing Jack Angel. Successful Lawyer. Perfect Gentleman. Total Lunatic.
Behind Closed Doors is a powerful story about patience, hope, trust, deceit and absolute misery.
This story stirred up countless emotions for me. I felt Graces fear. I was experiencing the total helplessness. And that anger!! The need to shout loudly"Oh do get a grip woman, no ones that naive, surely!!" Blah de blah de blah. Then, POW!!!!!! He's got you Grace, not by handcuffs and 20m of bondage rope. Oh no no no. You should be so lucky. But trapped by the power of his blackmailing, controlling mind. His words are what cut the deepest. He damages from the inside out and he feeds on fear.
Behind Closed Doors will stay with me forever. It was utterly compelling and full of open mouthed moments. Certain things really were quite emotionally hard to read.
As I said in one of my updates, I enjoyed the feelings of not enjoying this. I felt really quite uncomfortable at times. How fabulous. It addled my brain and had me shaking my fist with frustration for this pathetic little woman had only gone and got herself married to an absolute psychopath.
Still, that'll teach her to rush into things. But at least she has plenty of time to think things through. Thoroughly. Clever girl.
The author wrote with precision and perfect flow. This book read like I was watching a movie. 50 pages at a time seemed to fly by in seconds, I felt completely absorbed into Graces living nightmare.
I award this book 4.5 stars, but round it up to 5, as 4 isn't quite enough. It was a fantastic read with a brilliantly executed plot. What touched me the most, is there are people out there actually like this. And that thought chills me to the bone. *shivers*
