We decided to tandem read Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn with Sam @ Fictionally Sam. I'm not sure if I loved or hated it. I think storyline wise it was fun but I wasn't a fan of changing books every few chapters or so. Tower of Dawn is the only book in the series I haven't reviewed before.

Tower of Dawn starts with Chaol having two impossible tasks: convincing the Khagan and his six would-be-heirs to lend their armies to Aelin and the war against Erawan. And finding a healer in the Torre to get him walking again in some way. Yrene didn't want to help Chaol because of what King of Adarlan did to her parents but ends up helping him anyways. It didn't take her long to realize that he didn't learn to manage the pain but also felt like he deserved it.

I love Yrene and I wish she appeared more in the series. But I felt for Chaol for her making his ability to not walk even harder by showing others. Yrene didn't even ask if it was okay to use him as example to teach the other healers. Chaol was used to be strong but here he was at his weakest and having strangers stare at him. Chaol went through some character growth, so you can't help but forgive him all his past sins.

I didn't mind Chaol starting things with Yrene before officially breaking up with Nesryn. She had already broken up with him and honestly I didn't even notice they were together until he mentioned it to Yrene. Nesryn left him instead of him cheating on her. On top of that things with Chaol and Yrene developed slowly and Nesryn wasn't there.

Chaol had bad self-worth in this book. He felt like he did everything wrong with Dorian and Aelin and deserved nothing. Yrene didn't agree with him and instead thought he was noble, selfless and remarkable. Yrene's bravery, cleverness and unfaltering will made her a perfect fit to Chaol in my opinion. He never blamed her for anything (unless you count the scene where he was really talking about himself) and he really saw her unlike with Aelin.

I liked even the little romance with Nesryn and Sartaq. I didn't really care for her character until this book but I'm glad she found someone who appreciated her as the way she was and didn't just use her as a way to get over someone else. These two were similar despite him being a prince and they fit so well together.

All in all this book succeeded surprising me again and I even rated it higher than before. If you're hesitant to read this book because of Chaol just do it anyway. I basically hated him in Queen of Shadows and I really liked him in Tower of Dawn. This book has action, romance and mystery.
