Raewyn accidentally created a chaos portal to Earth but luckily her father taught him English when she was a child. She had no idea who or what Merikh was when she saw him. Merikh wore an amulet that created a human glamour. That's why he could walk around Clawhaven and she couldn't sense that he wasn't human.
I liked the romance but it felt more focused on their friendship than actual romance. It made sense to give them the opportunity to get to know each other but I wish they had realized their feelings to each other earlier. It was nice to see Merikh go from wanting to eat her to wanting to use her to not wanting her to even smile at the twins to wanting her to become his bride. He saw himself as a monster but he wasn't hideous to Raewyn. He could be kind in his own way, thoughtful and considerate. He could go out of his own way to make sure she was comfortable.
I was glad to learn more of the backstory of both of these characters. I just wish there would have been a reunion with Raewyn and her brother or we could've seen Merikh more with other duskwalkers. Loved to see more of the twins though!
All in all this book was good but it had so much more potential. I was happy to get POC and a blind heroine rep. I absolutely loved the last 200ish pages but most of the book was a solid three star read for me, so that's why I rated the book three stars.
