Please note that this is a review from 2016. At that time, I did not keep track of trigger warnings so apologies. Young Lacy did not know what she was doing back then.
This is part of a series so the review itself might have spoilers from the previous books. Please read at your own risk.
I just can't get enough of this series! This was such an excellent book. I just want to gush and gush about how much I love this series. Pardon the fangirling. It’s been a while since I’ve loved a series. So when you find one you love, you hold it tight and you never let it go.
So in this one, Ethan and Lena have come back to Gatlin after he rescues Lena. Lena has chosen what side she wants to Claim. This next sentence is going to be a bit of a spoiler if you haven’t read the first two books yet. She Claims both Light and Dark which is completely unheard of in the magic world. It comes at a cost and Lena is trying to deal with what she has done. But crazy bad things are happening as was mentioned in the synopsis. It's up to Ethan and Lena to restore Gatlin to what it was. Because even the Mortals are noticing things are not good and right in the world.
But Ethan is dealing with something that he is slowly losing control of. He has no idea what is happening to him. He is so frightened that he is losing himself. You can feel just how scared he is. If that happened to me, I would be terrified as well. He is the Wayward, which means he is the one who leads the Casters. He didn't choose this life, but he does it all for Lena. I love how much he loves her. (2024 Lacy says: I’ve noticed that I just spent the review summarizing the story. Since I read this book years ago, I don’t quite remember my feelings about the book itself. I also binge-read the heck out of this book so my remembrance of this book is fuzzy. So there won’t be much editing besides sentence structure and other things that Grammarly catches for me.)
If I could have any sort of complaint about this book and the series as a whole it's that Lena does drive me nuts sometimes. I understand that she is going through a lot. Her boyfriend isn't acting right. She has to find a way to live with the choices she made. Something happened to Ridley, her cousin. A lot is going on for her. But there were just times that I wanted to roll my eyes at her. I mean she had the nerve to get jealous because Ethan made friends with a girl when she up and left. But then again, she is a teenager so the way she is behaving makes sense for her age.
Overall, I truly loved this book so much. This book was simply amazing. Any questions that I might have had from the first two books are answered in this one. But I am so in love with this series. I just want everybody to read it!
