I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver

emotional hopeful reflective sad medium-paced

4.25

The range of emotions I went through with this book. My heart broke, it was broken again, and it was put back together again.

I read one of Mason Deaver's other books, The Ghosts We Keep, and it was an amazing look at grief. It followed the complex emotional trajectory the main character experienced in the aftermath of tragedy. The protagonist was lonely, hurt, and confused -- but not as broken as they thought. They were a character you wanted to hug.

So it's no surprise that I Wish You All the Best has another main character you can't help but love and root for. Ben is an incredible protagonist, and watching the emotional journey they take as they learn to accept themselves -- even when others do not -- is so affecting and moving. Mason Deaver has done an exceptional job at giving readers a front row seat to internal thoughts and feelings Ben goes through as they work through trauma, rejection, and pain -- but also acceptance, love, and forgiveness.

So many important topics are explored here, and Mason Deaver does an amazing job at giving all of those issues the right amount of attention.

A fantastic book.
