This was a very interesting story and it hit all the contemporary social issues but framed them in a late 1800's alternate society.
The pacing was occasionally spotty, but the way the author used old lore, old stories, old hurts, and stereotypes managed to come together in some rather compelling characters put in heart wrenching situations.
I especially enjoyed the end. It was unexpected and yet bright and hopeful.
