I picked this book up at the library, it stood out and so I then read the back and I thought, this sounds like my kinda book so I took it home with me and here we are, a few weeks later with a review.

I took my time with this book and all the time I was thinking it’s got something to do with him, no, it’s to do with her. But like Sarah, I was thinking about the *potential* possibilities, until things started to add up and then there’s the big twist that left me gasping. Like what the hell just happened there?? Yes, I did read it right.

That was a ramble, but anyway, when Sarah’s aunt Evelyn dies, Sarah discovers a secret fortune that has been left to her, but there’s a catch. Sarah must find out what happened to her aunt’s friend, Lucy. Did she go missing or was she murdered? Who is to blame? Someone knows something.

I felt scared for Sarah but I also felt her strength & confidence grow as the storyline developed. I’m pleased that she built a friendship up with gardener/handyman, Patrick. On several occasions, I had to remind myself it’s not a romance and actually a crime thriller… but I’ve throughly enjoyed my journey with this book and I will be picking up more of Howard’s books. I seriously cannot believe this was my first book but I just know, I’ll enjoy them all.

I would recommend this book to all new and old fans of Howard’s and definitely to all you crime fiction fans.
