I think many parts of this book felt very YA to me, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (just less mature, which I think made the stakes of the fantasy world feel less serious). I liked Rowan's fiery personality and her relationship with Davin but wasn't a big fan of the insta love that seemed to transpire out of not a strong relationship foundation. I also think Rowan's backstory was a little muddled to me - and because we don't get any glimpse of her world as far as setting, I feel like more background would have been helpful to get more context.
Looking forward to the rest of the serious though :) I imagine it's going to get a little more action packed fantasy scenes and more complex political issues and relationships.
