How can one not appreciate this novel!
Edward is a 12 year old boy and the sole survivor of a plane crash. All 191 passengers, including his parents and brother Jordan die in the crash. This is a heartbreaking, moving novel that takes you on Edward's journey, dealing with the trauma, loss and trying to find out where he now fits in this world and who he wants to be. Throughout the novel we are taken back to the flight, where we get to know and grow to care about the others on the plane. A novel of survival, not just surviving the crash but surviving after all that is lost. We see how the people in Edward's life, particularly the friendship formed with Shay becomes crucial to his daily survival, and later the discovery of hundreds of letters addressed to Edward hidden in his aunt and uncle's garage play a significant role in Edward making some sense of his purpose. I believe relationships/friendships can be complex but they are also vital to our everyday existence and survival. The importance of friendship and relationships was so beautifully portrayed in this novel. I absolutely loved this read and highly recommend it to you.
