Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

3.0

Casiopea acts as essentially a servant in her own family's house and lives a life filled with dreaming of a future different from the life she currently lives. When she uncovers the bones of the Mayan god of death and brings him to life, her life is truly changed forever. Her future is now intertwined with his and must go on a harrowing journey to help recover his throne.

I was really intrigued by the premise and I adore the cover! I loved the influence of Mayan folklore and the historical aspects of this story. I really enjoyed seeing the different perspectives of Casiopea and her cousin.

The one thing I didn't like about the book was I felt like it had a big lull in the middle. I got really bored very quickly. The action didn't pick up until the very end and then I was more interested again. It sucked because I was enjoying the story but it made it feel like it took forever to get through.

Overall it's a good book and I enjoyed it! I definitely think there are a lot of people who would really enjoy this book.
