The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown

2.0

I had started to read this book, then stopped because i don't like what I call 'reconstructive' historical accounts wherein the author tries to describe the scene right down to what the weather was like and what length of skirts the girls were wearing. Ho hum. But, since a friend loaned me the book, I persevered. I found the character accounts interesting (in those days a poor person could put themselves through college by working) and of course the final race in front of Hitler. Tough to make rowing interesting (to me anyway), but a half-hour film documentary could tell the entire story adequately.
