Scarred by Emily McIntire
5.0
Prince Tristan Faasa was never destined for the throne - it was always meant for his brother Michael, who is responsible for Tristan's tormented childhood and the scars on his face. When their father dies, Michael is set to assume the throne, and Tristan is determined to steal it. When Michael's new betrothed, Lady Sara Beatreaux, arrives Tristan finds himself in the middle of a new kind of war, begging the question of what is most important - the crown or the woman about to wear it. Sara's plan is to marry the King and eradicate the Faasa line, even at the risk of her peril. That's until she meets the Scarred Prince. As secrets come to light, Sara grows unsure of whom she can trust.
Emily has a way with words and is excellent at crafting villains who you can't help but root for. Her characters are flawed, yet so compelling. I loved Tristan and Sara as the main characters and their alternating dual POV completed the story so well.
I really enjoyed the royalty and off-limits love interest in SCARRED. This is a spicy dark romance within The Never After series and can be read as a standalone. The spice is of the slow-burn variety and I thought it to be well done. The last 20% of this book had me on edge as I read, worried that what I hoped would not come to fruition.
The ending is well done and comes to a very nice close. I really enjoyed the epilogue and extended epilogues which served as nice finishing touches to this novel. I thought it was really cool to have the character profiles included at the back of the novel. This is definitely a read that will stay with me for some time!
