oh i how i adore you.
y'all, going into this book i didn't know what to expect. fr! y'all talk about it so much and it has all this praise but y'all have let me down before!! not with this though. y'all were completely right and weren't exaggerating at all (shocker). as i type this i'm just so excited until next june when i read it again (and the june after that, and the june after that, and so on and so forth). TIA WILLIAMS. you're methodical. the call backs to their high school relationship and how they created their literary worlds from it was CRAZY. like, every reference that came up i was like, "😱 but didn't she just mention that in cursed-shut up!!" it was all just too good.
i want to talk about eva and shane so bad, but i won't. if you haven't read this, i really want you to go into this book with no premonitions about who these two are and just fall into them. reading this is like walking through a maze created with their story. to get to the center you're going to go in circles and take hard lefts but babyyyy! when you get to the center of the tootsie pop??? it'll be worth it 10 times over.
WHO I WILL TALK ABOUT? audre zora toni mercy-moore. and i know what y'all are thinking bc i had the same thought. zora neale hurston? toni morrison? but you're wrong. audre comes from audre lorde too. i have NEVER screamed so loudly at a characters name. and as crazy as it is, audre lives up to all those incredible women in every way. she was easily my favorite part of the book. she was witty, and smart, and an all around fireball. if tia williams released for a 14 book series just about eva, audre, and shane—"cursed" style— i would be sat 🤷🏾♀️.
i loved this book and everything about it (edit: i lied; fuck lizette, all my homies HATE lizette). very easily a 4.8⭐ read. i wanted to give it 5 but it's missing *something*. more pages perhaps.
