The Unexpected Joy of Being Single by Catherine Gray
3.0
The second book that I've read by Catherine Gray (after the Unexpected Joy of Being Sober). I have somewhat mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I love Gray's writing style. She's very funny, adds a good mixture of personal story and data from scientific studies, and doesn't go on and go. The book is well structured. I did take some useful ideas from the book as well about how to be more secure in a relationship, as well as enjoying time alone. However, overall, I felt like the book didn't deliver on what it promised. Gray spends a lot of the time in the book still in relationships. Similar to her book about sobriety, I think it's a book for someone that really can't imagine themselves living outside of a relationship (a relationship addict). If you're already relatively comfortable with yourself and don't feel a huge need for a relationship, then this book isn't particularly revolutionary or insightful.
