This didn't have quite the same charm as the initial entry in the series but I do think it's the best yet. Why? Conflict! By god there are some actual stakes in this book. It's still an ultra-cozy read where the protagonist faces basically no real hardship, but there is a brief window in this book where a potentially deadly disaster strikes, and this propels most of the book's narrative forward. The eye-rolling stuff from the previous book is still around, though less so (save for one absolutely cringe-inducing scene early on involving the protagonist and an older woman). There's also a lot more actual scifi in this one, though it's still a lot scanter than you'd expect from something with that genre tag.
I do feel like these first three books should have been edited down some and condensed into one volume, and where this book ends only reinforces that. I am curious to see what the world outside the Lois looks like, so I've already downloaded book 4.
