Initially, I only read this because I was planning on watching one of the various film adaptations and I saw it for $2 in an antique store. I am SO glad I picked it up and actually read it! I'm really looking forward to watching some of the movies, although I hear they are significantly worse than the book (especially the Marlon Brando with a bucket on his head one).
The Island of Dr. Moreau is deserving of a really good screen adaptation. As I was reading the last third of the book, I could see a vision of the perfect movie in my head. It's an excellent premise for a good body horror movie, especially considering Moreau's surgical profession. I find it odd that so many similar stories that have since been told always seem to use either some kind of gene editing thing or radiation when dissection is so much more visceral and horrifying. Why are people watering down my new favourite mad scientist, man?
