Call Us What We Carry by Amanda Gorman

4.0

As with most of the readers of this book, I discovered Gorman while watching the inauguration. Everything about her and the poem she shared blew me away, I immediately needed more.

I am a bit disappointed that The Hill We Climb is still my favorite out of the whole collection, though I also really loved Fury & Faith. I was a bit thrown off by the amount of pandemic-related works as we are still in the middle of it and it feels so fresh. But I think she did an excellent job at portraying the struggles we have gone through and are going through in regards to covid-19. I also loved her reminders that this isn't something brand new and history has a funny way of repeating itself.

I think Gorman is an extremely talented poet and I look forward to reading more from her.
