this is a memoir of 12-year-old Gulwali Passarlay fleeing from his home in Afghanistan to seek safety and refuge in the west. the journey of a young boy experiencing the devastating consequences of a war he didn’t create. of experiencing the types of obstacles that attempted to deplete the core of his humanness
i don’t know what words to say about this memoir. it’s gut-wrenching and heartbreaking and also beautiful and breathtaking. i hope you’ll read it and find ways to take action to address the very real problems that contribute to people being put in positions to flee their homes
Graphic: Grief, Suicide attempt, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Police brutality and Deportation
