The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
5.0
This one is a binge read. Seriously, it’s 5AM and no I have not gotten any sleep yet. I started reading “a little before bed” at chapter 7 and the flow of the book is so easy and enjoyable that I couldn’t put it down. I remember having the same problem the other night when I read the first 7 chapter. I belly-laughed throughout the entire book and often, some moments so comically sitcom-esque and cliche that I could stifle the giggle. I squealed and squirmed, some things incredibly uncomfortable - almost like a fear factor moment for your feelings. I over-explained why certain moments were especially adorable to my dog. I clutched my chest as I cried and related to the plights of our protagonist. Some things felt so sad that I wasn’t sure I could continue reading, but I did because I knew that a book this brilliantly written wouldn’t end as a dud - and it didn’t. The ending is just as heartwarming and funny as the beginning. There’s language and sexual references but I was pleased to find nothing graphic in this novel.
My favorite quote (out of context, so now you have to read it): “Get in the sheets, Elmo.”
Also, I would not classify this as “enemies to lovers”, definitely a slow burn romance. Would be a great beach read.
