Katie the Catsitter by Colleen AF Venable

I swear it’s the little details that make great graphic novels and, while I already was enjoying this read, the Roomba couple just really did it for me. LOL I laughed so hard every time I spotted them. Not to mention the detail of each cat and that all 218 are shown on the last few pages - which I was ecstatic about because as I previously mentioned, little details can take a book from good to great. I am already excited for the next book in 2022, which looks like it may be about friendship and possibly friend breakups based on the title and some notes from the author, which is such an important topic and conversation to have with the middle-grade audience. I so wish there had been a book about that for myself when I was that age and going through that and I’m excited to see how Colleen addresses it. For this book though, I really enjoyed the growth we see the main character go through as she learns not everything is black and white. I also believe it’s a great way to start a discussion with kids about good versus evil and right versus wrong. Some of what society deems evil can actually be good and it’s definitely something to converse with your kids about. Overall: I recommend you buy this book.
