Disclaimer: A Physical Copy was provided via Harper Collins International and the Author in exchange for an honest review. The Thoughts, opinions & feelings expressed in the review are therefore, my own. However, due to Quarantine/Lockdown, I did not have access to my copy; so I listened to the audiobook on Storytel App
There is a reason why I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in Meg Cabot’s books in my teenage years (and my adulthood: YAY for re – reads!) – so I was definitely looking forward to this adult romance; a genre that Meg Cabot has now entered into!
This was also my first serious foray into audiobooks – and I was really hoping that what looks to be a light hearted book, would be far better introduction to audiobooks rather than any fantasy or mystery/thriller – yeah no pressure at all!
Bree, our protagonist (whose POV we hear/read here) – just recently moved to the Little Bridge Island – she is not just trying to outrun a traumatic incident but also some very important life changing revelations that have had quite the effect on her outlook of her own life.
.She is quit enjoying the sedate pace of her life, working as a waitress and living with her rescue cat with almost no drama in her life (apart from the ones she is running from, of course!) when the island gets the news that they are in the path of a hurricane.
A hurricane she plans on riding out on the island itself; though is a newbie and trying to get the hang of exactly what supplies she needs and the precautions she needs to take during this hurricane. She is however, invited to the party at one of the island’s prominent family’s house, who also incidentally happens to be her boss as well.
The only thorn in her side is the island’s “playboy, Drew – a man whose truck seems to be parked at different houses every single night – a man who irritates her, mostly because she can’t seem to control her attraction towards this half open shirt wearing, abs showing off man, who rescues dogs and is building his own house! (Ugghhh.. How dare he?)
This was a sweet small town romance – I loved the wide variety of characters that were introduced, with their own backstories + the hurricane bringing people together – especially Drew and Mac who come together protecting and rescuing the abandoned pets around the island.
I really do wish we had Drew’s POV as well – it would have been fun to hear his thoughts and impressions of Mac along side of that of Mac – it was also fun to watch Mac, grown into the strength of herself, but also find that confidence for confronting her own fears.
No Judgments is definitely a must read for hardcore Meg Cabot fans as ell as those who love reading sweet small town romances.
