The Immortality Thief by Taran Hunt
4.25
Slice-of-life horror? Well okay then! Summary: our MC is coerced into attempting to salvage information from a very long-abandoned spaceship -- but others want it too.
If you're a sucker for 'thieves with a heart of gold' this one may be for you. It is a good 100 pages longer than it needs to be ... a loving editor needed to delete several chapters (no to cockroaches!) But the chapters are very short, so it still feels like a romp, and generally there's something interesting happening in each.
I liked the overall universe setup -- two warring sides, plus a third opposition makes for interesting clashes. There's such a strong focus on the core characters, it rather left the side characters under-developed, which then makes it hard to care about them being under threat. But the mains are great!
Could be read as a standalone, but the last page sets us up for the next in the series.
