She Gets the Girl by Alyson Derrick, Rachael Lippincott
5.0
She Gets the Girl has been sat on my shelf for over a year now and I’ve finally gotten around to reading it. I’m feeling quite annoyed with myself for leaving it so long because I absolutely adored this book. I had so much fun reading it and the fact that it was such a quick read was an obvious plus.
I loved both main characters equally. Alex was bold but had a sensitive side and Molly was adorably awkward but really grew in confidence. The development for both characters was done so well and you honestly could not tell the difference between who wrote which character. I’m assuming they each wrote one character’s chapters, but I don’t actually know. Either way, it flowed seamlessly and both characters were very strong.
This is a bit of a spoiler, but also not because it was obviously going to happen, but for a while I wasn’t actually sure if Alex and Molly would end up together. They really had me going for a while.
The plot actually dealt with a lot of serious topics, which honestly I was not expecting. I thought this was just going to be a cute fluffy romance, but no. This definitely wasn’t a bad thing though. I liked that the story had substance and it really made the characters feel real and authentic.
This is very random but I really appreciated the flat Stanley reference, especially as I was in a club for it in primary school. I don’t know how many people will understand this reference as I asked my boyfriend if he did and he said no. It was such a passing moment, but it made me smile.
Once again I have left it way too long since finishing the book to review it so I’m struggling to know what to write, but this always happens with five-star reads for me. Simply put, I loved everything about She Gets the Girl. The only complaint I have is that it doesn’t have a cute epilogue of them being disgustingly in love. That would have been the real icing on the cake.
