I went in totally blind to this book. As a white woman, I am actively looking to read diverse books and ingest other diverse forms of media. This book kept showing up on a list of important diverse books and I couldn’t agree more.
Sal & Noor are beautifully written and their individual as well as collective development is a true joy to watch. While parts of the story just made me full of rage, it felt like it was a wonderful representation of what being an immigrant in America is like. I also enjoyed the exposure to the muslim religion without too much of a slant one way or the other.
