My daughter and I buddy-read this for language arts, and we both loved it! Deza is such a sweet, feisty main character, and her family is just the best. This may have been the first novel my daughter has read that deals with so many different issues all at once. She got so much out of it. Highly recommend anytime, but it would tie in nicely with a study of the Great Depression or civil rights.
