How does one even review this...
Yes, there were times when I wanted to throw this book out of my window, but when it was good, it was GOOD, and I would feel guilty to give it anything but 5 stars.
Two things can be true at once...yes, it was overly long and some parts were just pain to read. And yes, it truly is a masterpiece.
To not get lost in all the things I what to say, let me just make a list...
Things I loved:
- the moral dilemmas of the characters, they were just so well written
- anything with Jean Valjean
- the tension in some scenes
-the revolution!!
-just how much you get to know the characters and feel for them
-the "Javert off the track" chapter
-the ending (yes, it did make me cry)
Things I hated:
-The whole Cosette and Marius storyline, especially at the beggining...
-the never ending random descriptions and history lessons
-when he spits out like 20 names right after each other... theres just no way I'm remembering any of it
-the part when he talks about Paris sewers for 20 pages during the climax
