The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle
4.0
An interesting mix of the Cthulhu mythos with those legends of blues musicians selling their souls for musical talent. Of all the modern takes on Lovecraft I've read this one comes closest to feeling like an actual Lovecraft story without veering into pastiche. Plus it's a direct takedown of the racism that is central to HPL's work so that's awesome.
Edit: I just read "The Horror at Red Hook" and now I get why it feels so much like a Lovecraft story haha
