The London Monster by Donna Scott

5.0

Ms. Scott's novel, The London Monster, was everything I look for in historical fiction. It was well-researched, full of period detail, seamlessly wove prose and period-appropriate dialogue that is also accessible to the modern reader, and evoked a deep sense of atmosphere. The characters were engaging and realistic, and honestly, I think the character, Maeve, ended up being my favorite of all (she reminded me of Eponine and Fantine from Les Miserables). The Monster was well-written and mysterious, and had me guessing right up until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I could tell the author researched much before writing this book.
